Dakota Supports the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence

Each day at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, over 300 children sit down to a hot meal, sometimes the only one they’ll get that day. Each year at the Auction, we open the Feed The Need bidding – for $3000 our supporters can fund the cost of one week of meals for our members. Our goal is to finish the night with all 52 weeks of meals covered. Our gratitude for this support is heartfelt, and anyone who visits the Club at dinnertime will see the impact of their gift on the kids’ faces.

Dakota donated to this cause and received the touching letter below:

I’m writing to extend a heartfelt thank you for attending the Spring in Paris Auction on April 11 benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence.
Your participation was an important contribution to the success of the event, which raises a significant portion of our annual operating budget.

Living in the poorest city in Massachusetts, our Club kids are exposed to gangs, gun violence, alcohol and drug abuse, crime, poverty, teen pregnancy, and neglect. Because demand exceeds our ability to serve, each and every Club supporter is critical in providing a safe haven and second home to more than 3,800 youth members who depend on us for hot meals, homework help, fitness and nutrition programs, college and career planning, and lasting personal relationships with caring staff members and volunteers.

On any given day, you’ll find nearly 500 kids at the Club, involved in activities that range from basketball to swimming, dance to karate, computer games to filmmaking, and more. These programs cost more than $2.8 million each year – with almost no government funding. Your support is especially meaningful when considering that the annual cost for each boy or girl is $850, yet membership is only $30 per year.

Thank you for sharing our mission of changing kids’ lives. We hope you will join us again next year!
